FREDERICTON - Aujourd'hui, à l'Assemblée législative, le chef du Parti vert et député de Fredericton-Sud, David Coon, a déposé la Loi sur le droit à un environnement sain. Le projet de loi propose de protéger les droits de tous les résidents actuels et futurs du Nouveau-Brunswick à un environnement sain et écologiquement équilibré.

 « Un environnement sain aura des effets positifs sur la santé des gens du Nouveau-Brunswick, aujourd'hui et pour les générations à venir », a déclaré M. Coon. « S'il est adopté, ce projet de loi contribuera à la réalisation de cet objectif. »

 Les désastres causés par la pollution des entreprises, comme l'explosion de l'American Irons & Metals (AIM) de Saint John et la pollution atmosphérique de l'usine Coastal Shell Product de Richibucto, inquiètent les résidents au sujet de leur santé, de celle de leurs enfants et de la sécurité de la terre qu'ils cultivent et de l'air qu'ils respirent.

 « Les Néo-Brunswickois et Néo-Brunswickoises sont chassés de leurs maisons et de leurs communautés afin d'échapper aux défis environnementaux et à la pollution », a déclaré M. Coon. « Les gouvernements libéraux et conservateurs successifs n'ont rien fait pour garantir aux gens du Nouveau-Brunswick un environnement sain, c'est pourquoi nous prenons l'initiative de créer légalement ce droit. »

Green Party Leader Tables Bill to Create Right to a Healthy Environment

FREDERICTON - Today in the Legislative Assembly, Green Party Leader and MLA for Fredericton South David Coon tabled An Act Respecting the Right to a Healthy Environment. The bill proposes to safeguard the rights of all present and future residents of New Brunswick to a healthy and ecologically balanced environment.

“A healthy environment will lead to positive health outcomes for New Brunswickers both now and for future generations,” said Coon. “If passed, this bill will help ensure this goal is achieved.” 

Corporate pollution disasters like the Saint John American Irons & Metals (AIM) explosion and air pollution from the Richibucto Coastal Shell Product plant have residents worried about their health, the health of their children, and the safety of the land they harvest and the air they breathe. 

“New Brunswickers are being chased into their homes and out of their communities in order to escape environmental challenges and pollution,” stated Coon. “Successive Liberal and Conservative governments have done nothing to ensure New Brunswickers have a healthy environment, so we are taking the initiative to legally create this right.”
